interactive
You & Five-O is a community-focused, woman-owned organization that offers engaging, interactive, and candid workshops designed to educate participants on practical, life-saving strategies to employ when interacting with law enforcement. Our participants learn about their constitutional rights, how to safely interact with officers during vehicle and on-street encounters, and law enforcement’s role in protecting citizenry.
Participants are encouraged to interact with us, and are given ample opportunity to ask questions, participate in the discussion, and provide feedback during the presentation.
This workshop is a must in today’s environment of heightened awareness and sensitivity to police interactions. It is definitely an eye opener!

Communication and education are essential between community and police, especially during these times. You & Five-O allows us to have these tough conversations and demonstrates what our responsibilities are to one another.

practical
Our workshops are available virtually and in-person. The content of the presentation is appropriate for youth, adults, non-profits, neighborhood organizations, and corporations. Our workshops average 90-120 minutes, but can also be half or full days; we are flexible to meet the needs of our clients.
We prefer a 2 hour time-frame, and ask for a minimum of 90 minutes, so we have plenty of time to answer questions and allow discussion. However, we can split our virtual workshops up into two hour-long sessions if that is preferred. We are careful to practice social distancing and wear face masks when presenting in-person.
Let us know what you're looking for. We are happy to adapt and work with you to find the best option for you!

Meet The Founder
BJ Council
Beverly “BJ” Council is the founder and primary presenter of You & Five-O, LLC. As the first African-American female to achieve the rank of Deputy Chief within the Durham City Police Department, she addresses community challenges slowly and methodically to create lasting change. She created You & Five-O as a response to the rise of deaths that were occurring during interactions between law enforcement and the communities they serve. You & Five-O enables communities/citizens to become empowered by understanding their rights and their role in the philosophy of community policing. When communities/citizens understand this philosophy and their local police departments embrace community policing, both parties can work towards trust and mutual respect. When this initial step is taken and accompanied with diversity and cultural training within law enforcement, we believe relationships between law enforcement and the citizens they serve are improved.
